Gorseinon College student Karanjeet Arora and his family face removal from the UK despite working hard within their new community.  Karanjeet and his family fled Afghanistan in 2004 after being persecuted for their Sikh faith by the Taliban.

Under UK rules, asylum seekers are not allowed to find work.  However, now that Karanjeet is 18 all their benefits have been stopped.  The family now fear that they may be forced to out onto the streets.

The family’s removal would blight the future of Karanjeet who is taking maths, economics and business studies at the College.

Terry Summerfield, assistant director of study at the college, has written to the Home Office, describing Karanjeet as an outstanding student and urging them not to disrupt his A-level studies.
