MEHTARLAM, July 6 (Pajhwok Afghan News): Governor of Nangarhar said he wanted to constitute a committee of ulema, elders and national leaders first in eastern provinces and then in centre to safeguard border.
Gul Agha Sherzai was addressing a ceremony organized in line with National Solidarity Council for Civil Societies. Sherzai said: “I want to constitute a committee of ulema, elders and national leaders first on level of eastern provinces and then on centre to safeguard border.”
According to officials of the committee, 60 cultural and civil societies of the eastern provinces were taking part in the committee. Thousands of poets, writers, influential people and officials were from Kabul, Logar and Wardak were present on this occasion.
Official of the Solidarity Council for Civil Societies Abdul Ghani Hashmi told Pajhwok Afghan News the council would work to strengthen security in the country and fight against national prejudices.
He said they would promote literacy ratio in the country and would organize cultural ceremonies. Governor of Laghman Gulab Mengal was also present on this occasion.
Police chief of Nangarhar Haji Abdul Zahir Qadir said they could not foresee the success of the council.
He said: “We have been deceived several times with such names, if any take one step, our support is with them.”
Harbak Sing, a Hindu participant of the ceremony, told this news agency they were also living in the country for years and were fed up of the ethnic and other hatreds. He said such councils would help in reducing ethnicity and other differences.
